Jenna Rink (Christa B. Allen), a girl celebrating her 13th birthday on May 26, 1987, wishes to be 30 in hopes that it would help her overcome her unpopularity at school. Jenna especially wants to join the "Six Chicks", a school clique led by Lucy "Tom-Tom" Wyman (Alexandra Kyle), who takes advantage of Jenna's desire to fit in by manipulating her. Jenna's best friend, Matt Flamhaff (Sean Marquette), gives her a doll dream house he built for her and a packet of "magic wishing dust" for her birthday, which is sprinkled on the roof of the house.
Tom-Tom dashes Jenna's hopes of joining the Six Chicks by pulling a cruel practical joke on her during a game of "Seven Minutes in Heaven". Jenna, mistakenly thinking Matt was responsible, yells at him and barricades herself in the closet where she put the Dream House. She cries and rocks backs and forth, bumping into the wall, wishing to be "30, flirty, and thriving". The wishing dust from the dollhouse sprinkles on her, and seconds later, Jenna awakens as a 30-year-old woman (Jennifer Garner) living in a Fifth Avenue apartment, without her friends or family. It is now 2004, but Jenna has no memory of the 17 years that have passed since her 13th birthday.
30-year-old Jenna's best friend, Lucy (Judy Greer) (no longer nicknamed Tom-Tom), drives her to her work office. Soon, Jenna discovers she works for Poise, her favorite fashion magazine when she was a teenager. Missing her best friend from 1987, Jenna asks her assistant to track down Matt. To her dismay, Jenna learns she and "Matty" have been estranged since high school when Jenna fell in with the in-crowd, and that Matt (Mark Ruffalo) is now engaged.
This is complicated by the fact that Jenna has become a shadow of her former self. She has lost almost all contact with her parents, and she is having an affair with the husband of Tracy from the art department. Not only is she generally despised by her co-workers, she is suspected of giving her magazine's ideas to a rival publication, Sparkle. Jenna slowly realizes that the person she has become is neither trustworthy nor likable, and unknowingly begins to reverse the situation by distancing herself from her new, shallow boyfriend, acting kinder and more honest to her co-workers and friends, and trying to restore her relationship with Matt.
After Jenna overhears Lucy badmouthing her to a co-worker, she sadly realizes that what she thought she wanted wasn't important after all. She heads back to her hometown in New Jersey to reunite with her parents and reminisce by looking through school yearbooks and other items from her school days. These inspire her on her return to Manhattan. Over several outings and working together on a magazine project, Jenna becomes friends with Matt again. Although Matt is engaged and Jenna has a boyfriend, they kiss during a nighttime walk. Dazed, Matt realizes he loves Jenna, but cannot change the past.
After arranging a magazine photo shoot with Matt, then making a successful presentation for a planned revamp for Poise, Jenna prepares for the revamp when she gets bad news from the publisher: Poise is shutting down because the work she put into the relaunch ended up in Sparkle. Jenna learns she was responsible for sabotaging Poise from within by sending their material to Sparkle for months. When Lucy learns this, she cons Matt into signing over the photo rights from the relaunch shoot to her. She accepts the position of Sparkle editor-in-chief, using Jenna's work as her own, similar to what she did when the girls were in high school.
When an already-distraught Jenna discovers Matt is getting married that day, she rushes to his house and begs him to call off the wedding. Matt cannot say yes, although he tells Jenna he loves her. From his closet, he pulls the "dream house" he made 17 years before and gives it back to her. Jenna leaves in tears, crying over the dream house and wishing she could return to 1987.
Unbeknownst to Jenna, specks of wishing dust remain on the dream house, and she wishes she was 13 again. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself back in the closet of the basement at her parents' house, thirteen years old again. She runs to Matt and kisses him. Now, she can change her life. 17 years later, Jenna and Matt are married and live in a house which looks like the dollhouse.

Final Destination
Alex Browning (portrayed by Devon Sawa) is going on a high school graduation trip to Paris with his fellow students. Before Volée Air Flight 180's take-off, Alex has a premonition that the flight will explode in mid-air, killing everybody onboard. Alex then wakes up and assumes the premonition was just a dream but as events from his vision begin to repeat themselves in reality, Alex panics and attempts to stop the flight before take-off. The resulting commotion leads to a handful of passengers being left behind, including Alex, orphan Clear Rivers (Ali Larter), Alex's best friend Tod Waggner (Chad Donella), teacher Valerie Lewton (Kristen Cloke), Alex's rival Carter Horton (Kerr Smith), Carter's girlfriend Terry Chaney (Amanda Detmer), and student Billy Hitchcock (Seann William Scott). After they are all forced off the plane, none of the passengers believe that Alex's vision will come true until the airliner takes off and explodes in mid-air killing everyone who was on board.
After Tod is strangled to death in his shower by a clothes line, his death is deemed a suicide, however Alex begins to think that Death is intervening to kill the survivors, because they were meant to die on the plane, and by still being alive they have changed death's plan. While trying to convince Clear of his belief at a cafe, Carter notices Alex and promptly comes over to start an argument. Disgusted by the ensuing confrontation, Carter's girlfriend Terry storms off and is immediately killed by a bus as she steps backwards into the road. After watching a news report detailing the cause of the explosion of Flight 180 Alex comes to the conclusion that Death is killing the survivors in the order they would have died in the explosion on the plane. He realizes that Ms. Lewton will be next, followed by Carter, Billy, himself and finally Clear. Alex heads to Ms. Lewton's house in the hope of saving her, however he arrives too late to stop her from being killed in a freak accident resulting in her computer monitor blowing up in her face, being impaled by a knife in the chest, and her house exploding with her in it.
Alex then contacts Carter, Clear and Billy to tell them what he thinks is happening. As they are riding in Carter's car, Alex has another premonition of a train and a seatbelt ripping. Carter asks Alex if he knows who will die next, Alex reveals that he does but refuses to specify who to the group. Frustrated with not having control over his death first Carter attempts to drive head-on into a fuel tanker but the car turns seemingly by itself turns and avoids the collision, Carter then stops his car on a train crossing, wanting to kill himself before Death does. At the last moment however he changes his mind but cannot exit his car as his seatbelt is jammed. Alex rushes to help Carter from his car, and as he foresaw, Carter's seatbelt rips and he is freed a second before the train destroys the car, thus cheating death. Billy, however is gruesomely decapitated by a piece of flying wreckage from the vehicle.
Alex believes that because he intervened in Carter's death he has saved Carter, Death skipped Carter and went on to Billy. Later he remembers in his original premonition he was asked to switch seats on the plane, and realizes that Clear is actually the next to die. Alex rushes to Clear's house to find her trapped in her car surrounded by fire. She is unable to escape her vehicle that is close to exploding as a damaged electrical cable is precariously flipping around outside. Alex saves her by picking up the live cable, but he is seriously hurt from the electrical shock and is then thrown a significant distance when her car explodes. Clear and the police rush to Alex's aid and then the screen fades to white.
Six months later, Alex, Clear, and Carter are in Paris talking about their experience and celebrating that it is over and they are finally in Paris. Alex brings up a theory that when someone intervenes to save a person, Death does in fact skip that person. However, he will start over to try again. Clear and Carter brush the idea off as nonsense. Shortly thereafter, a freak accident involving a bus causes a giant neon sign to swing off a hinge down towards Alex. Carter manages to intervene and pushes Alex to the ground, with the sign swinging down past the two of them and back up again. Carter then stands up and turns to Alex who is still on the ground. Carter says that he 'knew' Alex was next but that means that he was skipped. Carter asks Alex "So who's next?" However, before he finishes his sentence, the sign can be seen swinging back down on its momentum towards where Carter is now standing. The sign originally read Le Cafe Mero 81, however the broken part swinging towards Carter is the last three characters turned around, thereby reading '18o'. The screen cuts to black a split second before the sign would have hit Carter, and a loud whack is heard. His death is not actually shown, but it is strongly implied, leaving Alex and Clear the last two survivors of Flight 180.
